Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has defended 22years old attacker Ferran Torres as he says he has blind faith in him.
Barcelona coach Xavi has come out in support of forward Ferran Torres, who has been struggling for form and consistency at the club since joining from Manchester City in January 2022.
Despite making 15 La Liga appearances in the 2022-23 season, Torres has only found the back of the net twice and has not scored since November.
In a pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga match against Getafe, Xavi acknowledged the forward’s current struggles but expressed confidence that Torres will come out of this difficult spell.
What he doesn’t get is the goal. When there are many games in which he doesn’t score a goal, then confidence goes down,” he said. “He needs that goal, but he’s going to score it. We have blind faith in him. He’s given us a lot so far. His numbers aren’t bad at all”.
However, Torres will not be available for selection as he is serving a two-match ban for receiving a red card against Atletico Madrid. The suspension will also see him miss the team’s trip to Girona in La Liga.
The Spainish international has registered 7assist and 12 goals for the Blaugranas but will be hoping to do more if he’s to make his mark in a club as prestigious as Barcelona.
