The Racing Post reports that John Haddock has left his post of Chief Executive at Betfred.
Co-owner and co-founder Fred Done said:
“I would like to thank John for his 30 years of loyal unblemished service and I wish him well for the future. For the time being I shall be assuming all of John’s duties.”
Mr Haddock began his career in the bookmaking industry as a betting shop manager for Ladbrokes in Altrincham. In 1986 he joined Betfred, which at the time only had 25 outlets, becoming CEO of the company.
He played an important role in the expansion of Betfred. During his time at the bookmaker, the number of outlets increased from 25 to more than 1370. Additionally, during his time at the company Betfred acquired The Tote in a £265m deal ($341.5m at the current exchange rate).
It recently became known that Betfred beat off competition from Irish company Boylesports to acquire several outlets from bookmakers Ladbrookes and Coral who wanted to sell the shops in order to complete a merger. As expected, Betfred will soon receive the 360 outlets from the two companies.
