According to reports, Chelsea have agreed to sell £40 million flop Tiemoue Bakayoko to Turkish club Adana Demirspor.

Bakayoko moved to Stamford Bridge in a big money deal six years ago, but it hasn’t worked out for the 28-year-old midfielder, who has only one cap for France.

He has spent the majority of his time on loan, including two separate stints at AC Milan, as well as stints with Napoli and his former club Monaco.

Bakayoko has only played 43 games for Chelsea since joining the club in 2017, and according to Turkish media, he is now set to leave the club permanently if he can agree personal terms with Super Lig side Adana Demirspor.

The Blues were previously thought to be looking to terminate Bakayoko’s contract, which is set to expire in the summer of 2024.

However, Chelsea have agreed to sell him, and the player now only needs to work out personal terms to complete his move – with one week left in the January transfer window – as he prepares to meet with Adana Demirspor on Wednesday.

Chelsea have been active in the January transfer market, with Graham Potter’s side making six signings so far, including the £35 million signing of Noni Madueke from PSV.

The Blues also signed Mykhailo Mudryk for £88.5 million, Benoit Badiashile for £35 million, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos for undisclosed fees, and Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea, which has been under new ownership since Todd Boehly took over from Roman Abramovich in the summer, spent around £280 million on new players before the 2022-23 season began, bringing their total spending to £468.6 million.

The club has had a difficult season, finishing 10th in the Premier League and ten points off the top four. They have already been eliminated from the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, and they will face Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League.
