In August, few could have expected Leicester, who were bottom of the table at the same stage last year, to be on the top. But a betting slip has emerged showing that at least one fan considered it to be worth the risk, and they have been richly rewarded.
Goals from Riyad Mahrez and Shinji Okazaki saw the Foxes move five points clear at the top of the table with a win away at Everton with Arsenal and Manchester City set to meet at the Emirates stadium on Monday. But even a win for either side – who are in second and third place respectively – will leave them behind Leicester City going into Boxing Day.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: ‘This has to go down as one of the most incredible winning bets of all time. A fan who had the belief backed his side to defy the odds and the cash couldn’t come at a better time.’
