Liverpool are in the hunt for new midfielders as they need new legs to rejuvenate their midfield.
According to recent reports, Liverpool FC has reportedly begun talks with potential transfer targets, Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernández. The club is well-known for needing to rejuvenate its midfield, with current midfielders aging and having a lot of miles on the clock.
In an interview with Foot Mercato’s Anas Bakhkhar, Empire of the Kop revealed that Liverpool had held talks with Sofyan Amrabat, only for his camp to ‘abandon’ talks. However, Bakhkhar also confirmed that ‘discussions’ have taken place over both Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernández, with both Benfica and Borussia Dortmund contacted directly.
The interest in these players is solid enough to spook Amrabat’s entourage, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool will be able to get the deals done. The competition for both players is expected to be fierce, considering both play for clubs who sell at high prices, and both have performed well in recent tournaments.
It’s worth noting that Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, recently claimed that there have not yet been any formal approaches for Bellingham from anyone. As for Fernández, he looked bound for Chelsea at one stage, but that move appears to have collapsed, which could pave the way for a summer approach.
While it’s uncertain whether Liverpool will be able to afford both players, it’s likely that Klopp is opening ‘talks’ with both of them to ensure the club lands at least one of them, as a contingency plan.
Winning the race to sign Bellingham, in particular, won’t be easy, given the competition for the England international. However, if the reports of Klopp opening talks with the pair are true, it’s some positive news for Liverpool supporters.
