I’m overjoyed for him. What will happen this summer? We’ll see what happens when the time comes.

Marcel Sabitzer’s agent has indicated that he would like to stay at Manchester United beyond his loan period and that he feels revitalised after leaving Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old joined United on deadline day as a short-term replacement for Christian Eriksen, who is expected to be out until the beginning of April at the earliest.

Sabitzer has made an immediate impact at United, starting the last three Premier League games against Leeds (twice) and Leicester City.

The Austrian has impressed with his poise on the ball as well as his tenacity and work rate off it, and United’s hierarchy is thought to be considering making his loan move permanent.

Bayern Munich expects to recoup around €15 million (£13 million) if they sell the midfielder in the summer, which seems like a steal given his performances for United so far.

Sabitzer’s agent, Roger Wittmann, has now provided an update on the Austrian’s future, indicating that he would like to extend his stay and is enjoying life at Old Trafford.

‘Marcel is a fantastic player. It doesn’t surprise me that he’s doing so well so quickly,’ Wittmann told German news outlet SPORT1.

‘It doesn’t take long to find your way around a club and a league like this if you have as much experience as Marcel, whether in the Champions League or with over 60 international appearances.

‘He adores English toughness! The Premier League was an obvious choice for him from the start.

‘He’s an aggressive player who does exactly what he wants there. And what is required there.’

When asked if Sabitzer would stay at United after this summer, Wittmann said, ‘At Manchester United, we are seeing the Marcel from Leipzig again.

‘I’m overjoyed for him. What will happen this summer? We’ll see what happens when the time comes.’

When Eriksen’s injury was revealed on deadline day, manager Erik ten Hag is said to have been offered up to ten different midfielders, but Sabitzer was always his first choice, having tracked the player since he was at RB Leipzig.
