Arsenal suffered a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest thereby handing Manchester City the 2022/23 Premier League trophy

In a disappointing turn of events, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his frustration as his side fell to a defeat against Nottingham Forest, admitting that even if they had played for “three hours,” they would have failed to find a breakthrough.

The Gunners’ hopes of securing a victory were dashed by Taiwo Awoniyi’s sole goal, which handed Forest the triumph and, subsequently, the Premier League title to Manchester City.

Arsenal’s performance was far from impressive, particularly considering the recent dropped points against Southampton and West Ham, now compounded by the loss to Forest in the closing stages of the season.

Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession at the City Ground, Arsenal’s young team struggled to make effective use of the ball, repeatedly failing to penetrate Forest’s defense. The home side, who had not kept a clean sheet since early February, proved resilient and denied the Gunners any goals.

Reflecting on the disappointing outcome, Arteta extended his congratulations to Manchester City for their championship success, but couldn’t hide his disappointment, stating,

“Congratulations to City for winning the championship and obviously a really sad day for us after everything we have done in the season but now we have to face the reality,” said Arteta.

“Today, we gave a goal away and squandered another significant chance. Our inability to break down Forest is evident. We could have played for three hours and still not created enough opportunities. I must take responsibility for this outcome.”

The defeat further dampens Arsenal’s season, as they now face the reality of their campaign falling short of expectations. Arteta, as the manager, understands the weight of his responsibility in turning things around and will need to regroup his team in preparation for the challenges ahead.
