McTominay is now ‘worried’ about his lack of opportunities under ten Hag, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is concerned about his playing time under Erik ten Hag and is considering a move to Newcastle United.

The Scotland international started six of United’s first seven league games before being replaced by Casemiro, who joined the club in the summer in a £60 million deal from Real Madrid.

The Brazil international has been a hugely influential presence in midfield and one of United’s best players this season, resulting in McTominay’s starting opportunities drying up.

The 26-year-old has not started a league game since the 6-3 loss to Manchester City in October, with the majority of his game time limited to the Carabao Cup, where he started and finished games against Aston Villa, Burnley, and Charlton.

The Manchester United academy graduate is wanted by Newcastle this month and is ‘widely liked’ by the Tyneside management team.

McTominay is said to be open to a move to St James’ Park to play under Eddie Howe, with Newcastle set to launch a bid if Old Trafford offers any encouragement.

However, it remains to be seen whether United would sell to and potentially strengthen a direct rival for Champions League qualification, with only goal difference separating the two in the league.

United are also fighting on four fronts this season, with McTominay, Casemiro, Fred, and Christian Eriksen as their senior central midfield options.

Zidane Iqbal has also appeared in matchday squads this season, but he is reportedly looking to go on loan this month.

Kobbie Mainoo also made his senior debut for the club in the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Charlton.

United’s January business has been limited to loan signings, with Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst joining on season-long deals.

Borussia Dortmund are interested in loaning Anthony Elanga this month, while Everton and Bournemouth are also interested in the Sweden international.
