Pundit Criticizes VAR Controversy in Tottenham’s Win Over Liverpool
In the aftermath of Tottenham Hotspur’s contentious 2-1 triumph over Liverpool, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara voiced his dissatisfaction on Twitter.
O’Hara, despite his allegiance to Tottenham, believed that VAR had made an incorrect call in disallowing Luis Diaz’s first-half goal when the score was still level at 0-0. This decision was crucial, particularly since Liverpool was playing with ten players.
Tottenham eventually took the lead thanks to Son Heung-min and secured a last-minute victory with Joel Matip’s goal. The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) later acknowledged their error in the Diaz incident. O’Hara didn’t mince his words, expressing his dismay at the refereeing decisions and suggesting that VAR needed a reevaluation if such clear errors continued.
“Seriously though, I’ll take the three points all day,” said O’Hara. “But these refs are becoming an absolute shambles.
“I could see from the studio on a small tv it was onside, just bin it if you can’t even get clear decisions correct.”

Despite Tottenham’s impressive start to the season under their new manager, the focus in the headlines remained on the VAR controversies.
Liverpool will now focus on their Thursday Europa league clash against Union-Saint Galloise.
