Timo Werner has warned RB Leipzig teammate Christopher Nkunku that when he moves to Chelsea, he will face a different level of pressure and scrutiny.

Chelsea agreed to meet Nkunku’s buy-out clause at the end of last year, and the France international is expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Neither Chelsea nor RB Leipzig have made an official announcement, but it has been widely reported that the Blues paid around £60 million to secure Nkunku’s services.

Nkunku has spent four productive seasons with Leipzig, scoring 64 goals in 159 appearances and making his France debut.

The 25-year-old, who was named to Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad but did not play in Qatar due to injury, will hope to outperform current teammate Werner at Chelsea.

While Germany’s Werner lifted the Champions League at Stamford Bridge, he was chastised for his sloppy finishing, prompting Chelsea to sell him back to RB Leipzig last summer.

Werner admits he had a difficult time in west London and has told Nkunku that when he leaves RB Leipzig for Chelsea, he will face more competition and pressure.

‘Everyone has to have their own experience,’ Werner said to Bild after scoring 23 goals in 89 games for Chelsea.

‘I had a great first year and a mediocre second. Should he decide to relocate, I can tell him from both positive and negative experiences.

‘At a club like that, you don’t play like you did at RB Leipzig because there’s even more competition – not just on a sporting level, but also on a mental level.

‘You have to deal with it, and everyone has to find their own path. That is why giving others advice is a bad idea.

‘My time there changed me drastically. It made me wiser and more reflective. And it inspired me to travel abroad again at the end of my career.

‘I still get a lot of letters from Chelsea fans or am addressed while on vacation, almost always positively. They probably liked the fact that I was genuine.

‘I think it’s important to be yourself in football as well. And you don’t have to act all the time.’

Since American businessman Todd Boehly bought the club, Chelsea has spent more than £400 million on new signings.
