England’s all-time highest goalscorer Wayne Rooney has claimed that he’d prefer either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi to lift the World Cup in Qatar as it would be a fitting end to their ‘incredible’ careers.

Argentina and Portugal are part of the favourites to lift the World Cup in December but the former has more chances of doing so, thanks to the number of quality players in their squad.

Both Ronaldo and Messi have won everything there’s at the club level and have won some international trophies but are yet to lift the World Cup.

Rooney thought that it would be a fitting end to their brilliant careers if either Ronaldo or Messi wins the competition in Qatar next month.

Speaking to The Times of India, Rooney said: “I would love to see either Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo win the World Cup. It would be a fitting end to their incredible careers.”
