Rublev, as the favourite to win, is sure to have a tough match. De Minaur leads (2-1) in their head-to-head encounter. One of his victories over the Rublev was on indoors.
De Minaur and Rublev have met three times in their careers and all three matches were high-scoring. Including last year’s meeting between the two, which took place at the Monte Carlo Masters. This match is expected to be played in three sets as well.
Alex reached the fourth round at the Australian Open last month.
Not a bad result on the one hand, but Alex was clearly disappointed with his loss to Novak Djokovic (2-6, 1-6, 2-6). The Australian only took five games against the injured Novak.
Before that, De Minaur quietly defeated Yu Hsiou Hsu (6-2, 6-2, 6-3), Adrian Mannarino (7-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1) and Benjamin Bonzi (7-6, 6-2, 6-1).
De Minaur reached the quarter-finals in Rotterdam last year, where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas (4-6, 4-6).
De Minaur has won half of his last ten meetings as an underdog.
This will also be Andrey’s first match since the Australian Open.
Rublev reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne. Like De Minaur, he too fell short against Djokovic (1-6, 2-6, 4-6). Rublev took at least a semblance of a fight in the third set but won only three games in the two previous games.
Rublev, however, scored an upset in the fourth round, taking a match point from Holger Rune in the fifth set (6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6).
Before that, he defeated Dominic Thiem (6-4, 6-4, 6-2), Emil Ruusuvuori (6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3) and Dan Evans (6-4, 6-2, 6-3).
However, it’s also worth remembering that Rublev failed in two tournaments in Adelaide. In both cases, he did not win a single match.
Rublev won the Rotterdam tournament in 2021 and reached the semi-finals last year, where he lost to Felix Auger Aliassime (7-6, 4-6, 2-6).
Rublev has eight wins under his belt in Rotterdam’s last ten matches.
