The Leverkusen boys have got their tails up after a pleasing streak of results, winning four of their last five in all competitions, and they come here after a particularly encouraging result in the Bundesliga last weekend. Despite going away from home to face a fearsome RB Leipzig side, Saturday’s visitors returned with all three points thanks to a clinical counter-attacking performance.
Unfortunately, the home form of the hosts is relatively underwhelming, though they do come here having won when last in league action at this venue, beating Bochum by a goal to nil, while their overall form of late means that they’re likely to be feeling very upbeat about their chances.
The visitors did something that they don’t normally do last weekend, and that was offer more than the minimum going forward. The long and short of it is that Furth just isn’t up to the task defensively. Stefan Leitl’s men are not even nearly good enough at the back, as the fact that they’ve conceded a whopping 39 goals in 13 matches suggests. Therein lies the problem, and there really is little more to say.
As was the case for both Gladbach and Hoffenheim in recent weeks, this is a huge opportunity for Leverkusen to continue on the up and fill their boots. The aforementioned teams both obliged, scoring ten goals between them, and the Saturday’s hosts can too.
