Jannick Sinner looking for a better campaign than last year

19-year-old Italian Jannick Sinner has been a revelation in Italian tennis in the last couple of years. Sinner had reached the quarter-final in the 2020 edition losing to eventual champion Nadal. The Italian hopes to have a better impact this year as he starts his campaign against Herbert whom he beat in their only past meeting last year in Cologne.

Sinner is on a 7-5 win/loss record this year on clay. He had some impressive wins this year over Karatsev in Lyon last week and Rublev in Barcelona where he reached the semi-final and lost to Tsitsipas. This is Sinner’s second Rolland Garros tournament in his career, he has a 4-1 record.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert hoping to use his experience over the young Italian

Playing on his least favorite surface, Pierre-Hugues Herbert has just two wins on clay this year in the main draws in six matches. The Frenchman is on a 5-6 win/loss career record at Rolland Garros and has never played beyond the third round in the French Open.

His best result to date in Paris was in the first round of the 2019 edition when he beat then no 12 Daniil Medvedev in the first round in five sets. Herbert will be looking for a similar result by relying on his experience and the home fans. He had warmed up for this tournament in Lyon by losing in the first round to Korda.

Key Points

  • Herbert has an average of 10.38 games per set in 2021
  • Herbert has an average of 10.27 games per set in his career in Rollan Garros
  • Sinner has played on average 9.97 games per set in 2021
  • Sinner has an average of 9.61 games per set in Grand Slam tournaments in his career

Jannick Sinner vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert Prediction

World number 19 Jannick Sinner is a firm favorite to win this match. The young Italian has improved immensely in the last couple of years and we think he has the ability to become a top ten player in the near future. He possesses very hard groundstrokes and can dictate long rallies from the baseline.

Herbert hasn’t been an influential player in a Grand Slam tournament in his career. His best-ever result was his win against Medvedev in 2019, his only win against a top 20 player in a Grand Slam. The Frenchman has performed quite well in Rolland Garros in front of his home crowd and he may get more games from Sinner than anticipated and maybe even a set.

We think there is a good betting value at Vbet for this match in the total games market as we think Sinner will finish this match with the least possible damages.
