Spain v Turkey: Thomas Giles’s betting tip
The Spaniards dominated their first game against the Czech Republic but only managed to clinch the three points thanks to a Gerard Pique header in the last minute after some resolute Czech defending. I thought Turkey would do well in this group and backed them to be fighting it out with Croatia for that second qualification spot. However, they looked dire in their 1-0 defeat to the Croats and my optimism for Fatih Terim’s side has since dwindled.
A win for Spain will automatically take them through to the Round of 16 with only the honour of winning the group likely to be up for grabs in the final round of group fixtures. I cannot see this group having one of the best third places finishers at the tournament so the Turks must record a win to have any chance of qualifying.
As previously mentioned, Vincente Del Bosque’s side only need a win to qualify so are likely to want to wrap this match up early. With this in mind, I predict Spain will win the first half which will then mean Turkey will have to push for goals in the second half – leaving gaps at the back which the Spaniards will exploit.
Spain to win both halves is 3/1.
