Zamalek SC head coach Patrice Carteron has backed the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) decision to stage the remainder of the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League campaign in one country.

On Tuesday, the CAF Executive Committee decided via videoconferencing that the semi-finals and final of this season's CAF Champions League be held in Cameroon due to the coronavirus crisis.

The Frenchman stressed that staging the remaining matches of the competition in one country will protect teams from the disease.

"I respect the decisions of CAF to hold semi-final and final matches from one match only, which will provide more protection for the teams and less travel, and therefore will not be exposed to the frequent travel stress that was happening before," Carteron said.

The competition which was suspended in April due to the global pandemic will resume in September with CAF expected to announce the dates for the fixtures in the coming days.

Zamalek will face Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic whereas Al Ahly SC take on another Moroccan side Wydad AC in the other semi-final fixture.
