Zambia deny Ghana Nations Cup final

Zambia extended Ghana's search for an African title since 1982 after winning 1-0 in the African Nations Cup semi-final on Wednesday in Bata.

The Black Stars, who were reduced to ten men in the second half, paid dearly for missing a lot of scoring opportunities in the first half including an Asamoah Gyan missed penalty on ten minutes.

The Chipolopolo will have to thank substitute Emmanuel Mayuka for his second half brilliance.

The Young Boys striker collected a ball at the edge of the Ghana penalty box, picked well before driving a curling ball behind the stretched Adam Kwarasey.

Centre-back John Boye failed to keep the tabs on the slippery forward who weaved his magic.

Ghana came close to snatching the equalizer on three ocassions with Isaac Vorsah being denied inside the box as his goal bound shot cannoned off a Zambia defender.

The four-time champions piled on the pressure to draw level but things even became complicated when midfielder Derek Boateng was sent for a second yellow card offence.

Probably, Gyan should have scored from the spot when Kwadwo Asamoah was tripped inside the box for a penalty.

The Al Ain marksman stepped forward and shot into the waiting arms of goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.

Ghana will now have to battle for third place against either Ivory Coast or Mali on Saturday in Malabo.
