Zanetti not worried about renewing Mancini’s contract

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti is adamant that the club are not worried about Roberto Mancini’s contract situation.

The Nerazzurri have slid down the table since the turn of the New Year and weren’t helped by a 3-3 draw away to bottom side Hellas Verona.

“When Mancini said that there are only four or five teams in Europe that play at a top standard I don’t believe that was a criticism of Inter,” said Zanetti to Premium Sport.

“I believe there are more than five, Napoli play well and so do Fiorentina and Empoli.

“We’re still building a team in terms of consistency and results.”

The Inter legend also discussed the coach’s contract in greater detail.

“We have great faith in him [Mancini] but first we need to focus on the games remaining this season,” Zanetti went on.

“After that, we will have time to approach the issue.”

The retired full-back was also about his compatriot Mauro Icardi’s role with the Biscione.

“I talk about him a lot, he has a great responsibility as the captain of a club with Inter’s history,” Zanetti added.

“He needs to stay calm and keep having faith, he is very respected in the dressing room which is what matters.”
