Zidane Iqbal: The Manchester United kid who idolised Ozil and now loves Frenkie de Jong

Published on: 22 February 2022

Zidane Iqbal is second to only Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of the popularity of Manchester United's players, despite having just eight first-team minutes under his belt. Nobody is more in-demand for interviews than he is, and he only penned a first professional contract in 2021.

But Iqbal is already an Iraq international, and he has been considered a hero for the Asian community in football for quite a while already, with countless British-Asian youngsters looking up to him.

In his own childhood, Iqbal was an admirer of former Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil and, now, Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.

Iqbal, despite his popularity, remains grounded. He is an important player in the PFA's Asian Inclusion Mentoring Scheme and regularly gets involved in Zoom calls to conduct Q&A sessions with groups of children to help them in their development.

Although he's quiet by nature, he knows how much weight his voice carries and looks to use it to help where and when he can.
