Zidane: Real Madrid are a team with character

Zinedine Zidane was satisfied with his players' reaction against Sevilla after two consecutive defeats to Alaves and Shakhtar Donetsk in LaLiga Santander and Champions League respectively.

The Frenchman hailed his men's mentality throughout a tough game against a strong side at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.

"There are three very important points, but more important is the game we played," Zidane said in his post-match press conference. "Our first half was very good, and we deserved the three points against a very good opponent.

"We have overcome this against a team that makes it difficult for you at any time.

"We are a team with character. It is true that from time to time it affects us playing every three days.

"We never stop playing. We have to fix some things. And when we fix them, then we will take more steps forward."

Asked about the criticism him and his side received during the last week, Zidane insisted that Real Madrid have to keep trying to find consistency.

"This is not going to change," Zidane responded. "We know that when you don't do well, they will criticise you.

"You have to think positively and nothing else. Keep trying to be consistent and that's what we are going to be."

Real Madrid have struggled to score lately, having netted two goals in the last three games, but Zidane was satisfied with the opportunities his players created against Sevilla.

"We have to be happy with the chances we have created," Zidane noted. "And everything can be improved by regaining confidence and regaining tranquillity.

"Today we played the game very well and we suffered, of course, because there is an opponent.

"We have to trust in what we do and congratulate the players, because it is not easy to come to Seville and win."
