Antonio Rudiger has opened up on how he immediately got in touch with Thomas Tuchel after his sacking news.
The former Chelsea defender admitted he was ‘surprised’ with Todd Boehly’s decision to sack the German manager after only seven matches of the campaign.
The 29-year-old, who joined Real Madrid in summer transfer window, upgraded into one of the best defenders under Tuchel since his arrival in 2021.
Speaking to Sport1, the German international revealed he reached out his ex-coach once he heard the news.
“First they let him get new players, only to then let him go after a few games. I was surprised at the speed.
“The day of his release was a sad one for me. I wrote to him afterwards and thanked him again for everything. He was there for everyone, not just me. If you look at where we came from and where he took us, he did the impossible. But you know how it is in football. Sometimes you’re the hero, sometimes the bogeyman.” added Rudiger.
