Cesar Azpilicueta Blows Hot On Penalty Denial Against West Ham United

Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta has blasted VAR, following a controversy in the weekend game against West Ham.

The Spaniard expressed his disappointment in the decision of the Video Assistant Referee denying Chelsea what looked like a clear penalty in the late minutes of the game.

Joao Felix had given the Blues the lead, early in the first half, though ex-Chelsea boy, Emerson gave the home side the equalizer moments before half time as the visitors could not protect their lead.

Both teams remained level with Chelsea having the upper hand at chances created, which they failed to convert, late into the game, there was a controversy as the visitors felt they merited a penalty.

Conor fired a shot which was diverted away from goal by Thomas Soucek, after a brief check by VAR, the game was allowed to carry on as the case was dismissed to not have worth a penalty.

The decision of the Video Assistant Referee attracted huge criticism, leaving many talking.

Cesar failed to feature in the match, but the Chelsea captain mentioned being angry at the decision after he had seen it while sitting on the bench on an iPad, this he made clear during an interview ahead of the match against Dortmund.

Chelsea Boss, Graham Potter reacted to the situation on a lighter note, this also attracted criticism, from media and fans.

Azpilicueta when questioned about his boss’ reaction responded: “I’ve been with different managers that expressed themselves in different ways. Nothing more I can add.
