Gabriel Martinelli has backed Arsenal’s signing of Leandro Trossard, claiming that his new teammate will become a “very important player” for Mikel Arteta’s side.
After falling short of signing Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea earlier this month, Arsenal moved quickly to complete a £27 million deal with Brighton for Trossard last week.
The Belgian international, who was out of contract with Brighton in the summer, made his debut in the 82nd minute of Arsenal’s 3-2 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
Trossard’s arrival means more competition for Arteta’s attacking spots, but Martinelli, who has seven Premier League goals this season, has welcomed the Gunners’ latest addition.
Martinelli told ESPN Brasil about Arsenal’s decision to sign Trossard: ‘He’ll be a very important player for us. We are aware of his quality.
‘He did very well at Brighton and will undoubtedly be of great assistance. And we’re doing everything we can to make him feel at ease and show off his football skills.’
Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United puts them five points ahead of Manchester City, who have played one more game.
Arsenal are now favourites to win their first league title since 2004, and Martinelli believes his teammates are mentally prepared to do so.
We have a winning attitude,’ Martinelli explained.
‘We always go out there to win, and we have to keep doing that if we want to be champions.
‘It’s not about age, but about mentality and the desire to win every game.’
