American tennis player Venus Williams has commented on her return to the singles tour at the tournament in Washington, USA.
This is my first match in a long time. I’m just a bit rusty. Right now I’m just trying to get rid of the rust. That’s to be expected. All I can do is just play one more tournament and play better,” Tennis Majors quoted Williams as saying.
Rebecca Marino had a hard-fought (4-6), (6-1), and (6-4) victory over Venus Williams. In the second round Marino will meet the winner of the pair Andrea Petkovic (Germany) – Clara Tauson (Denmark).
Venus Williams played in a mix with Jamie Murray at Wimbledon 2022, with the pair reaching the second round. Williams has not played singles since 2021.
