Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis has spoken out about another former champion of the division, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Pettis disagrees with the opinion that the Russian, who ended his career undefeated, is the best lightweight in UFC history.

“It’s hard for me to call Khabib the greatest lightweight because he hasn’t fought everyone. He won the title in a fight with Al Iaquinta.

Iaquinta wasn’t even in the rankings then, so you know. Then he fought some good guys and retired.

Khabib is definitely one of the best lightweights, but I find it hard to call him the greatest when there are guys like B.J. Penn.

If he hadn’t come back and lost a couple of fights in his time, we’d all be talking about him now as the greatest fighter in lightweight history,” said Pettis.
