Former Manchester United transfer target Jurriеn Timber is reportedly starting for the Netherlands against Ecuador on Friday in the Qatar World Cup.

Although the official starting lineup will be released nearly an hour before kick-off,
have reported that the Ajax defender has been given the green light by head coach Louis van Gaal to start against Ecuador.

The Ajax defender was an unused substitute as the Netherlands scored two late goals to beat Senegal 2-0 earlier this week.

Whilst on the bench, Louis van Gaal opted to work with Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake and De Ligt as his three centre-backs and the former Manchester United boss’ tactics worked as they helped the Dutch win with a clean sheet.

Although the backline was solid against Senegal, Van Gaal has reportedly decided to make a slight change in his backline, which could see the Ajax defender replace either De Ligt or Ake.

The same outlet reported that Davy Klaassen would start for the Dutch side against Ecuador as well.

The Netherlands need a win over Ecuador to ensure their qualification for the next round. While they are the favourites to get all three points against the Ecuadorians, Louis van Gaal doesn’t think the game will be easy.

Van Gaal: “I think Ecuador are a more organized team than Senegal. It will be hard.”
