Guido Pella to have a better performance in the US Open
31-year-old Guido Pella saw himself slipping down the rankings to number 84 after he was the 20th in 2019. Evidently, 2019 was the Argentine’s best year in his career as he won the only title in his career.
However, Pella suffered to find form this season as he has a 5-14 win/loss record. In addition, he has won two matches in a row just once all year and that was in Cincinnati two weeks ago.
This is Pella’s 13th US Open main draw appearance. Having lost in the first round of the last two editions, the Argentine’s best result was reaching the third round in 2018.
Pella Key Stats
- Pella won three of his six matches on hard courts this year
- The Argentine played on average 20.5 games per match
- 65.6% is Pella’s first serve percentage this year on hard courts
Filip Krajinovic is the favorite to advance
Reaching the final of the Hamburg Open on clay being the highlight of the year, Krajinovic is looking for better results on the hard courts. In fact, his win/loss record is 3-4 coming into the US Open.
Krajinovic doesn’t have a favorite surface. As we can see from his stats, the Serb has a winning percentage of almost 50% on all surfaces. However, the hardcourt record is slightly better at 52%.
In the US Open, Krajinovic appeared in the main draw five times before this year’s edition. And his best result was last year when he reached the third round and lost to David Goffin in three sets.
Krajinovic Key Stats
- Krajinovic won 75% of the points on his first serve on hard courts this year
- The Serb won 82.1 % of his service games
- 29.9 is the number of games Krajinovic played per match this year on hard courts
Guido Pella vs Filip Krajinovic Prediction
This is the third meeting between these two players. The previous two matches were won by Krajinovic back in 2017. Still, Krajinovic is the favorite to win again with the bookies with odds of 1.28 at Vbet.
Notably, Krajinovic has a better overall record on hard courts than Pella. But, both players haven’t advanced past the round of 32 in the US Open before. It will be very difficult for them to break that jinx as they may face Rublev in the round of 32.
Pella’s left-handed serve might prove too much for Krajinovic. Interestingly, the 32nd seed lost all three of his matches against left-handers this year.
Since the odds for a Krajinovic win is quite low, we will back the total games market for this match.
