Hertha Berlin welcome Hamburger SV to the Olympiastadion on Saturday afternoon for a fixture that sees two teams who’ve made contrasting starts to the campaign go head-to-head.

Hertha Berlin, although they’ve stuttered slightly of late, have made a pleasing start to the new season and, having won three, drawn one and lost one, they find themselves sat in 6th place. Hamburg, on the other hand, having lost four and drawn one, are languishing down in 17th and are in desperate need of a lift, although they aren’t likely to get one in this fixture.

After enjoying a solid campaign last year, especially in front of their own fans, Hertha appear to going in the right direction this time around too. OK, they recently lost 3-0 at the hands of Bayern Munich, but the Champions will be dishing out beatings of this nature left, right and centre, as they do year in year out, so this isn’t really comparable form. Last time out they drew 3-3 away to Frankfurt – again, not the worst result given the fact that Frankfurt sit above them in the table. Prior to these two results, Hertha looked very solid, they won their opening three matches, scoring six goals and conceding just one.

From a betting point of view, the first selection to be on in this fixture is simply ‘Hertha Berlin to Win’ at 11/10. The hosts have won both of their home matches so far this season and have looked good in doing so. With this in mind, they’re certainly a good bet against a struggling Hamburg side.

It’s hard to feel encouraged by either of Hamburg’s away performances and there really is nothing to cling to that suggests they’ll do better in this fixture. The visitors have conceded four goals on the road and have been outplayed on both occasions – outplayed by two teams who, arguably, are not as good as Hertha, at least at home.

The Olympiastadion is a notoriously tough place for teams to go and Hertha Berlin have made themselves into formidable opposition when playing there. Other than Bayern Munich, Hertha Berlin kept more clean sheets at home that any other Bundesliga side last season (8), they also conceded, on average, the third least in the division.

At odds of 5/4, ‘Hertha Berlin to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ is also a worthy bet in this fixture. The hosts have found the net twice in both of their home matches so far this season, as well as in four out of five overall. The only time they failed to register twice was away at Bayern Munich (no shame there). What’s more, Hamburg have been conceding at a fairly alarming rate. The visitors have shipped ten goals in their five matches to date and have conceded twice in two of those. Although, especially last time out, they were lucky not to concede far more than the one they did.

Additionally, in Julian Schieber and Vedad Ibisevic (seven goals between them), Hertha have two centre-forwards who’ve been in good form recently and they will surely be itching to get at this less than secure Hamburg back-line.

All things considered, this is an excellent opportunity for the hosts to continue both their winning and scoring form and, against struggling opposition, they are fancied to make the most of it.
