These two former giants of the Premier League have been sitting in second division mediocrity for years. However, Fulham look like a team about to change that whilst Leeds are going the opposite way.

Garry Monk arrived at Leeds with a reputation of playing attractive football thanks to his time at Swansea. However, things have not gone well so far with two defeats out of two in the Championship and only managing to beat League One Fleetwood Town on penalties in the League Cup.

The Whites have invested in some players with good reputations this summer, namely Kemar Roofe who was superb in Oxford’s promotion to League One last year. However, the Championship is a completely different league and he will take time to adapt.

It is all very well and good trying to play out of defence with pretty football – something that most football fans crave – but you need to have the players to do it. With all due respect to Kyle Bartley and Sol Bamba (the two central defenders for Leeds), they are not suddenly going to be able to change their playing style just because Garry Monk has arrived and encouraged them to pass it about. These two are robust centre backs who should be allowed to do what they are good at, without having to worry about being creative.

This attempt to change the playing style is undoubtedly the cause of the recent poor results.

Fulham may have lost two of their top goalscorers from last season in Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele, but they have made a flying start to the season and have won their first two Championship games. Slavisa Jokanovic’s has played the transfer market well, selling on players for far more than they were worth whilst investing in some good talent – a lot of whom have Championship experience.

The Cottagers will be high in confidence going into this match.

Going by what I have outlined in the preview I cannot see anything other than a Fulham win. For some reason most of the Bookies have made the home side favourites. However, Leeds look very vulnerable at the back whilst Fulham finally seem to be clicking after years of stagnation. 9/5 about an away win is irresistible.
