Alcaraz, meanwhile, is one of the main favourites for the US Open. If last year his reaching the quarter-finals was a real surprise, this time he is expected at least to repeat the result.
However, it is too early to say that Carlos will fight for the title. Recent tournaments have shown he still has some work to do.
At the Masters in Montreal, Alcaraz lost immediately to Tommy Paul, even though he felt in control of the court until halfway through the second set.
In Cincinnati, he lost in the quarter-finals to Cameron Norrie. A good, tight match, but in the decisive moment his opponent was better.
