Arteta reacts to Arsenal failing to sign Luiz on transfer deadline day: “We tried, and at the end of the day”
The club’s unsuccessful pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz on deadline day has been discussed by Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta for the first time in less than 24 hours.
“The club has done a phenomenal job of bringing in players that we wanted. Unfortunately, in the last 72 hours, Thomas [Partey] and Mo [Elneny] got injured, and we had to react in the market. We tried, and at the end of the day, we have to bring in the players we feel are right, but we didn’t manage to do it.”
The Gunners had three bids rejected, the last one was £25m.
