With the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 season fast-approaching, we carefully analysed four teams that could join Paris Saint-Germain in challenging for the title.

Who are the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 title favourites?

The 2023–24 Ligue 1 Uber Eats season will begin on the weekend of August 12 and 13. Starting with the 2023–24 season, there will be 18 clubs instead of 20 in the French league.

Who are the top five favourites for the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 title?

RC Lens

Lens raised many eyebrows after they won 11 of their opening Ligue 1 15 matches. RC Lens returned to the French top flight in the 2020/2021 season and went against the odds to finish 7th with 57 points.

They improved on their performance in the 2021/2022 season by five points [62pts] but they finished 7th, one position outside European football.

In the 2022/2023 season, RC Lens managed half the points of last the two seasons after 15 matches, after 11 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat and ranked 2nd with five points behind 1st-placed Paris Saint-Germain.

Although they lacked consistency in the second half of last season, Lens still managed to finish in the top-four with more points than last two seasons. They have been touted as one of the favourites to win the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 title, thanks to their solid backline.

Stade Rennes FC

Rennes occupied the 3rd position with 31 points after 14 games when club football took a temporary stop to observe the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Upon the return of club action, Rennes continued where they left off, although they had some downs, just like the rest of the European clubs. Regardless, they put out top performances in the majority of the second half of the season and recorded some impressive results.

They are regarded as one of the favourites to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the 2023/2024, after finishing in the top six in the 2022/2023 season.

Olympique Marseille

Marseille started last season as the second favourites behind Paris Saint-Germain to win the Ligue 1 title, having finished as the runners-up in the 2021/2022 season.

Marseille, however, failed to stop PSG from retaining the title last season but still managed to finish in the top three with over 60 points.

Olympique Marseille finished 5th, 2nd and 3rd in the last three seasons, hence they are clearly one of the favourites to challenge for the Ligue 1 glory, plus they are only improving their squad every transfer window.

AS Monaco

Monaco struggled towards the last games before the World Cup break but got off to a great start after club action restarted late December.

The Monégasques finished in the 3rd place with 69 points in the 2021/2022 and finished in the top four last season after a string of top performances in the last weeks of the season.

They may have been a bit behind the likes of PSG and Marseille in recent seasons, but they have a decent squad that can put up a fight for the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 title, hence they are regarded as one of the favourites.

AS Monaco raised many eyebrows when they forced PSG to settle in a 1-1 draw at Parc des Princes and that suggested that the Monégasques aren’t as far behind the top guns in Ligue 1 as many have predicted.

Paris Saint-Germain

The Parisians head into every season as the top favourites to win the Ligue 1 title. They retained their title last season following a pile of great performances, thanks to the influence of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and former Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

As expected, they remain the top favourite to win the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 title after they finished as the champions of Ligue 1 last season with over 80 points.

Although the Parc des Princes side did not make many marquee signings over the summer, they are expected to remain the team to beat and will also look to take their dominance over in the Champions League, a competition they still dream to win.
