Australia unlikely to face tough challenge
Since 2006 Australia became a member of the Asian Football Federation. Notably, the Socceroos took part in five World Cups reaching the last 16 of the 2006 edition. As for the Asian Cup, the Aussies appeared in four finals since 2007 and won the title in 2015. Also, a runner-up finish at the Fifa Confederation Cup in 1997 must be noted.
More recently, the Socceroos won their two group games beating China and Vietnam and kept two clean sheets along the way. Moreover, Graham Arnold’s team are on a ten-match winning streak dating back to September 2019. In effect, the Aussies have never missed a World cup berth since joining the Asian confederation and look to repeat that feat again.
Australia Key Stats
- Australia scored in all of their last ten matches
- The Socceroos had eight clean sheets in their last ten matches

Oman to make the best use of counter-attacking style
Oman pulled off the surprise of the qualifications so far by beating Japan in their opening match. However, the Reds couldn’t follow that with a second as they lost to Saudi Arabia at home in their second game. During both fixtures, Oman had more chances to score and less possession of the ball. Meaning coach Branko Ivankovic’s strategy of relying on counters is quite effective.
Ranked 78th in the world, Oman’s best achievement in international football is winning the Gulf Cup twice. In addition, the Reds appeared in four AFC Asian Cups and their best result was reaching the round of 16 in 2019. In any case, coach Brankovic seems to put together a tough defensive team that is giving trouble to the leading teams.
Oman Key Stats
- Oman lost one of their last five matches
- The Reds had four clean sheets in ten matches
- In the last ten matches, Oman scored on average 1.8 goals per match
Australia vs Oman Prediction
Nobody expected Oman to stun Japan in the opening match. Also, Oman’s match against Saudi Arabia was very well played by Brankovic’s men allowing their opponents one shot at goal.
As a result of these performances, we expect Oman to play another defensive game. In effect, the Aussies must be careful not to commit themselves too much on offense and lose balance at the back.
To wrap up, we think Australia will emerge as winners in the end. With odds at 1.44 for an Aussie win at Vbet, we will back both teams not to score in this one. Further, we are backing the Socceroos to win to nil.
