Newcastle’s Midfielder set for return against Arsenal after injury absence
Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff is set to return to contention for the team’s upcoming Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, after missing out on training earlier in the week. Longstaff’s absence from the previous game against Southampton was felt by the team, with the midfielder having played in every game this season until then. Head coach Eddie Howe confirmed the player’s injury in his pre-match press conference on Friday, saying: “Sean’s okay. He’s improved. He hasn’t trained yet, so we’re hoping, either today or tomorrow, he will.”
Longstaff’s absence in the Southampton game was notable, as it marked the first time this season that he was not on the field for the Magpies. This was due to a foot injury that he sustained in the game against Everton, which also saw him miss the subsequent match. Despite his absence, Newcastle were able to come from behind to secure a 3-1 win.
Longstaff’s impact on the team was also missed in the recent match against Aston Villa, where he was unable to start due to illness. Newcastle went on to lose the game 3-0, highlighting Longstaff’s importance to the team’s midfield.
Speaking about Longstaff’s recovery, Howe stated: “We’re hoping to get him back as soon as possible, as he’s an important player for us. He’s been working hard to recover and we’re confident that he’ll be able to play a role in the upcoming game against Arsenal.” With Longstaff’s return, Newcastle will hope to secure a positive result against Arsenal
