France v Switzerland: Thomas Giles’ betting tip
Hosts France are already through to the last 16 after a last-gasp win against minnows Albania last week and it will be interesting to see if Deschamps will rotate his squad in order to make sure that his players are fresh for the knockout rounds. Switzerland only need a point to guarantee the second qualification spot; however, having already secured four points from their first two games, they are likely to go through as one of the best third place finishers. Personally I do not see Deschamps rotating his squad for this final group game as the pressure of maintaining their good form from their expectant home fans will likely prove too much for the manager.
There may be a slight, unintentional complacency about the Swiss during this game with them knowing they are likely to qualify for the next round so with this in mind you have to back France. However, as per usual, backing the favourites does not represent good value so you need to search the markets to find something worth going for. Dimitri Payet is in excellent goal-scoring form at the moment having scored in both of France’s games so far. The West Ham midfielder is capable of placing one in the top corner out of nothing so it is hard to turn down ‘Payet to score anytime and France to win’ at 7/2.
