Spain v Turkey: Gabriele Marcotti’s betting tip
Spain got some criticism for “sterile possession” in their opening game against the Czechs, but some of it was over the top. First, it’s less of a concern when you don’t create chances – and Spain did create plenty, they only failed to finish – and second the Czechs parked the bus. I’m not sure Turkey will do that after their opening day loss to Croatia. Turkey aren’t built for that anyway. I’d lean towards over 2.5 goals at 1.91, though I don’t like backing odds-on so a better option is Spain to win and and both teams to score at 13/5.
We know how Spain will play, they’ll dictate possession and play on the front foot, some teams can shut this out and keep things tight, but Turkey aren’t likely to be one of them. What’s more is they can’t afford to do this after losing the opener. At some point the Turks will have to come out and play and it’s fancied that it will be sooner rather than later. Therefore we could see an open game, one where both teams should find themselves with chances; Spain through their sheer creativity, and Turkey on the counter.
