Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction One – Handicap (-5) for Alcaraz – 1.59.
Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction Two – Total Games Under 20 – 1.74.
Alcaraz is the clear favourite in this pairing. Gombos simply has no way of replying to Carlos. We believe that Carlos will comfortably confirm his status in this match.
We wait for an easy and fast match for Alcaraz, who, remember, will have to defend last year’s final on the courts of Umag. Gombos is in good form at the moment, but he is unlikely to put up a good fight against Alcaraz.
Alcaraz came to Umag to defend his title. A year ago, he won his first ATP-level tournament here.
Earlier this week, Carlos made his debut in the top 5. That came after a tournament in Hamburg, where he reached the final.
However, Alcaraz was unlikely to be happy with the result. In the deciding match, he lost to Lorenzo Musetti (4-6, 7-6, 4-6).
Alcaraz dropped five match points in the second set and after this, there was no doubt that he would defeat Lorenzo in the decider. However, it didn’t work out that way.
Remarkably, for Carlos, it was his first defeat in the final games.
Alcaraz has won nine of his last ten second-round matches.
Gombos, meanwhile, is ranked 117th in the current ATP rankings.
He got into the main draw of the Umag tournament as a lucky loser. In the decider, he lost to Franco Agamenone (4-6, 6-1, 5-7).
Ironically, after that, Norbert defeated a much more serious opponent, Federico Delbonis (6-4, 5-7, 6-4).
Gombos reached the final on the Challenger in Salzburg in early July before winning two matches in Verona and Trieste.
Gombos has won just two matches at the ATP level this season.
Gombos had previously played against the top 10 three times and failed to even clinch a set.
In 3 of Gombos’ last 5 matches, less than 9.5 games have been played in the first set. We offer to bet on “1st Set Games – Under 9.5” with odds of 1.59.
