Bookmaker Ratings: Prediction Two – Total Games Over 22.5 – 1.57.
We don’t expect either player to win with confidence. Both are good hard-court players. It’s unlikely that Tommy Paul will be able to pull off a convincing win.
The Atlanta courts suit the opponents’ style of play well. Both rely on serving. Jack and Tommy are both very good at this component of the game. They score some points because of it. Most likely, the tennis players will not change anything in particular. It’s unlikely to be a short match between Sock and Paul.
Sock is still outside the top 100 in the rankings. He is now 106th, although he could well be back in the top 100 at the end of Wimbledon, but, as you know, the ATP and WTA have stripped Wimbledon of points because of the situation with Russian and Belarusian players.
At Wimbledon, Sock not only qualified but won two matches in the main draw, including the match against Maxime Cressy (6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6).
After that, Jack made it one round in Newport. After defeating Radu Albot (6-1, 7-6), Jack lost to Alexandr Bublik (3-6, 6-3, 2-6).
On the hard court this season, Sock has not been very successful. At the ATP level, he has only three wins on this surface.
Four of Sock’s previous five matches have gone to a tie-break.
Paul also did well at Wimbledon, reaching the fourth round. He was beaten by Cameron Norrie (4-6, 5-7, 4-6).
Tommy also reached the quarter-finals in London and Eastbourne in June, beating Denis Shapovalov (6-4, 2-6, 6-4), Stan Wawrinka (6-1, 6-4) and Jannik Sinner (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).
Paul has also had successful tournaments on the hard court. He has won two matches each in Indian Wells and Miami. He reached the semi-finals in Delray Beach, while in Acapulco and Adelaide he reached the quarter-finals.
There is little doubt that Paul will be in the top 30 in the near future, but so far he is ranked 36th.
Paul has started all seven tournaments this season on the open hard court with a win.
