Kylian Mbappe: Luke Shaw warns England against ‘purely’ focusing only on France star
Luke Shaw has suggested that it would be a ‘naive’ decision if England decided to put their entire focus on stopping France star Kylian Mbappe when both countries meet in the quarter-final.
England will face France in the quarter-final of the ongoing 2022 Qatar World Cup this weekend after both countries won their round of 16 matches at ease. The Three Lions smashed Senegal 3-0 while France made it look easy after beating Poland 3-1.
Kylian Mbappe is obviously one of the best performers in the World Cup, having scored five goals and provided two assists in four matches.
He’s definitely one to watch out but Shaw has warned that, although the PSG forward is a world-class player, England cannot afford to ‘purely’ put their focus on the 24-year-old, given the number of quality players in the French team.
Speaking ahead of the quarter-final game between England and France, Shaw said: “Obviously after his performance (against Poland) there’s going to be even more chat about him but we know he’s a world-class player,” he said.
“I think it would be very naive of us to focus purely on him [Kylian Mbappe]. They’re reigning world champions for a reason and we need to focus on them as a whole team.
“They have brilliant players over the whole pitch so we’re not going to fully focus on him, but it’s an amazing tie to be involved in and that’s why we’re here.”
