WAFA opened their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League campaign with a shaky 4-3 win over King Faisal in Sogakope on Sunday, 15 November, 2020 at home.

There was a brace each for Daniel Lomotey and Kwame Peprah for the home team and Faisal respectively.

New signing Gdowin Abgevor scored on his debut in the see-saw contest.

Defender Konadu Yiadom opened the scoring with a header in the 17th minute from a corner kick after dominating play.

The Academy Boys were enjoying possession and had earned four corner before the half hour mark.

But they were not too clinical as more got wasted.

King Faisal shocked the hosts on 33 minutes with the equalizer courtesy Kwame Peprah.

He capitalized on the blunder of the WAFA defence- giving away the ball too easily-to punish the Academy Boys.

Just after the interval, debuntant Agbevor put WAFA ahead with a powerful strike from outside the box.

That goal provided more impetus as Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum's boy turned on their attacking machine.

In the 65th minute striker Daniel Lomotey was at hand to score the third goal of the match with a fine finish.

With King Faisal dazed, WAFA delivered another knockout punch courtesy Lomotey just three minutes after opener.

The visitors will not go down easily as they got one back on the score board with a fine finish from Wadudu Yakubu.

Ten minutes from time Peprah found the back of the net again for the second time to set up a tensed finish.

WAFA managed to protect their slim lead to open their campaign with a win.
