2020/21 Ghana Premier League: Week 26 Match Preview - Asante Kotoko vs. WAFA SC

Published on: 21 May 2021

Leaders Asante Kotoko SC will be looking to keep their grip on top of the premiership standings when they entertain WAFA SC at the Len Clay Stadium on Saturday.

The Porcupine Warriors lead the pack with 45 points but are only two points ahead of sworn rivals Hearts of Oak who intend to end a ten-year trophy drought.

Asante Kotoko needed a goal in the last ten minutes in their game against Liberty Professionals last weekend to earn a point.

Mariano Barreto's side are on a four-game unbeaten streak since their defeat to Medeama SC in Obuasi last month. They have won three and drawn just once from the four matches.

The Red family will be welcoming back in-form Emmanuel Gyamfi in the team to face the Academy boys this weekend.

The deputy captain has netted three goals and provided one assist in the last two matches for Asante Kotoko at the Len Clay Stadium.

A victory over WAFA for the Porcupine Warriors on Saturday will mean they have recorded three home wins on the bounce for the first time this campaign.

First choice goalkeeper Razak Abalora has been dropped and won't make the match squad for the fixture.

WAFA are counting on their recent away form to give Asante Kotoko a reality check in their title chase.

The Academy Boys are travelling to Obuasi in full confidence after away wins at Berekum Chelsea (3-2) and Medeama SC (2-1).

WAFA are currently placed at the 8th position on the premiership standings and a win on Saturday could send them upwards to the top four places.

The Academy lads have never beaten the Porcupine Warriors at away in the league. They aim at breaking the hoodoo this weekend by clinching a win.

The Sogakope based side will be counting on the present scoring form of striker Justus Torsutsey if they should manage a good result on Saturday.

Torsutsey who joined the team in the second transfer window from second-tier side Sekondi Hasaacas has bagged three goals in the last four matches.

Prosper Narteh Ogum has almost a fully strength squad available for selection to face the Fabulous club with the return of playmaker Augustine Boakye to full fitness.
