2020/21 Ghana Premier League: Week 4 Match Report- Elmina Sharks 1-0 Aduana Stars

Published on: 03 December 2020

Elmina Sharks grabbed their first win of the season after a dominant display to beat former champions Aduana Stars 1-0 at the Ndoum Park.

Richard Mpong's 21st minute goal against his former club separated the two sides in a highly entertaining encounter.

The petite midfielder's low cross from corner miraculously beat two Aduana defenders as the ball found it way into the net to give Elmina Sharks the lead, following a brief spell of dominance from the home side.

Aduana Stars were left to rue early chances, with Caleb Amankwah's header missing narrowly, and John Nyamekye's indecision costing them a lead.

Moments after the two quick chances, Aduana were also denied by the cross bar after Nathan Kwasi Asare met Bright Agyei's half bicycle kick.

Justice Mensah could have doubled Sharks' lead before the break after he was sent through but his effort in a one on one situation was feeble to trouble Aduana.

Sharks returned from the break searching for a second, creating good chances, and came close with Mensah twisting and turning in the box but could not force a finish.

Benjamin Arthur then forced a brilliant save from the experienced Joseph Addo, before another effort from Eric Asiedu went inches wide.

Aduana Stars had one rare chance but Bright Agye failed to control the ball which ended up ricocheting an Elmina Sharks defender before it was calmly grabbed by Lord Martey.

Benjamin Tweneboah should have killed the game after beating Caleb Amankwah off the ball and was left with goalkeeper Joseph Addo to beat but failed.

Sharks will next travel to Obuasi to play Ashantigold with Aduana hosting Eleven Wonders.
