2021/22 Ghana Premier League: Week 19 Match Preview - Karela United vs. AshantiGold

Published on: 04 March 2022

Karela United FC will welcome AshantiGold SC in their first home match of the second round of the Ghana Premier League this Sunday at the CAM Park in Nzema-Aiyinase.

The Pride and Passion side were on a good run until last weekend's blip when they lost 2-0 to Aduana Stars in Dormaa Ahenkro.

Karela go into this weekend's fixture with all seriousness to ensure they get back to winning ways immediately.

That is Karela's only defeat in the last eight premiership matches having won four times and drawn three times in the process.

The impressive streak saw trainer Bismark Kobi-Mensah nominated for coach of the month of January but he missed out on the award to Asante Kotoko coach.

A penalty goal in additional minutes by Umar Bashiru earned a point for Karela when they last hosted the Miners in the league.

Bashiru has been the main man for the Nzema-Aiyinase based club this campaign as he has bagged 8 goals in 18 appearances so far.

AshantiGold would want to quickly forget about the humiliation they suffered at home in Obuasi last weekend by claiming at least a point from their visit to Karela.

The Miners were thrashed 4-1 at the Len Clay Stadium by Eleven Wonders FC as they opened the second half of the campaign on a very bad note.

The embarrassing defeat has seen German trainer Henry Haeusler relieved off his duties as head coach of the club.

Assistant coach Thomas Duah who was absent at the dugout last weekend is expected to lead the team for their trip to Nzema-Aiyinase.

AshantiGold have been a better side in their last two visits to Karela in the league - 2-1 win at the Tarkwa Akoon Park two years ago and a 1-1 stalemate at the CAM Park last year.

Goalkeeper Kofi Mensah Mensah remains out and won't be available for Sunday's match while Kwadwo Amoako and Richard Osei Agyemang are expected back in the team.
