Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak will face Malian side AS Real de Bamako in the second preliminary round of this season's CAF Confederation Cup.

The Phobians were exempted from the first preliminary round after being ranked amongst the top sides in the competition.

Real de Bamako eliminated Burkina Faso club AS Douanes on Tuesday to confirm their fixture against Hearts which will take place next month.

The Malians saw off AS Douanes after winning 3-1 on post match penalty shootouts after 0-0 aggregate scoreline after two legs.

The Bamako based side returned to the Confederation Cup this year after their last participation in 2014 where they made it to the group stages.

The last appearance in continental club football was in 2018 having exited after the first preliminary round in the CAF Champions League.

Real de Bamako are the third force of Malian after Djoliba AC and Stade Malien. They have six championship titles and ten Malian Cup triumphs.

Hearts failed to make it to the group stage last season as they were eliminated by Algerian side JS Saoura in the play-off round.

The Phobians won the maiden edition of the Confederation Cup in 2004 beating bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko SC in the final.
