2022 World Cup: Brazil friendly to give Ghana chance to test true readiness for Qatar

Published on: 20 September 2022

Ghana will play five-time world champions Brazil in an international friendly on Friday.

The game will be played in Le Havre, France, and both teams are in camp preparing for the crucial match.

Ghana have qualified for the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar, and see this friendly as an ideal practice game to sharpen their methods and strengthen their chemistry ahead of difficult group games against Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

According to technical advisor Chris Hughton, the Black Stars will use the match to assess the players, particularly the newcomers Inaki Williams, Stephen Ambrosius, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, and Tariq Lamptey.

“We thought there were going to be two AFCON games and so very quickly the organization had to organize two friendly games and we congratulate them on that. [We have] two very good friendlies,” Hughton said on TV3.

“There is a lot of organization going into that. Otto’s job will be to formulate what he wants to get from these two games. The balances will be results because results matter.

“It’s good certainly to go into the World Cup campaign on the back of winning games but it’s the result, its performances, and the opportunity to look at individuals because we’re now very close to the World Cup.

“These two games give Otto, me and the technical staff the time and experience to look at everybody and formulate the squad for the World Cup,” he added.

After Brazil, Ghana will play another friendly against Nicaragua in Spain on September 29.
