2022 World Cup play-off: Ex-Nigeria forward Victor Ikpeba insists head coach has selection headache ahead of Ghana showdown

Ex-Nigeria international forward Victor Ikpeba has said national team trainer Augustine Eguavoen has selection headache ahead of the 2022 World Cup play-off.

The Super Eagles interim coach, Eguavoen released his squad for the two-legged games against Ghana later this month and named seven others on standby.

Ademola Lookman and Akinkunmi Amoo got their maiden call-ups to the squad while Oghenekaro Etebo also made the cut after long-term injury.

Experienced striker Odion Jude Ighalo is also back to the team alongside Napoli striker Victor Osimhen who missed AFCON 2021 due to an injury.

More so, Ikpeba believes that qualification to the Mundial in Qatar should be paramount for the star-studded Nigerian team.

"What we want is to see them go out and defeat Ghana and qualify for the World Cup. We should not dwell on the list," he expressed.

"Eguavoen has a selection headache. We don’t know if Chukwueze or Moses will start because we have lots of forwards.

"Integration is important. You need time to gel. Europe is different because you play together.

Ghana will host the first leg at the Cape Coast Stadium on Friday, March 25 and Nigeria will host the second leg four days later at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
