Published on: 11 November 2021

The Black Stars of Ghana were held by Ethiopia at the Orlando Stadium in the penultimate Group G game of the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Andre Ayew's stunning freekick in the first half was cancelled by Getaneh Kedebe in the second half as the Black Stars share the spoils with Ethiopia.

Ghana sit second in the table, level on points with South Africa, who play Zimbabwe tonight before traveling to Cape Coast for the final group game/.

However, there are five things GHANASoccerner observed from this afternoon's match.

1 Lack of creativity

The Black Stars had some good amount of possession early in the game but failed to create the opportunities they needed to kill the game. Although, a couple of chances fell to Richmond Yiadom and Andre Ayew in the first half, the Black Stars were out of the game in the second half.

2 Slow build up

The Black Stars were slow in building up play and mostly became prone to making mistakes in crucial areas. One of those led to the goal, after Joseph Aidoo missed the ball where he should not have lost it. Ghana were overwhelmed by the lackadaisical attitide.

3 Joseph Aidoo's sloppiness

The Celta Vigo defender panicked throughout the game, losing simple passes and was very uncomfortable with the ball at his feet. His rustiness affected the build up play of the Black Stars.

4 Key players missed

The Black Stars missed some key players, especially Thomas Partey in the middle of the park. There was no connection between the defence and the attack. Not only did the team miss Partey, but also Alexander Djiku, who has been a standout performer since joining the team.

5 Lackluster attitude

The attitude of the players was poor, especially knowing the game was not over. The team was too relaxed and got distracted many times. There was a lack of awareness from the players any time they lose possession.
