Ghana will be hosting South Africa in the decisive 2022 World Cup qualifer in Cape Coast on Sunday in what will be the 16th meeting between the two sides.

Bafana Bafana have a marginally better record with five wins to their name in their previous clashes with the Black Stars

Ghana were victorious on four occasions in their matches against South Africa as six games in the past have ended in draws.

Their most recent clash between the two sides was in September when Bafana Bafana were triumphant thanks to Bongokuhle Hlongwhane's 83rd-minute goal that helped them to the narrow 1-0 win at home.

Ghana will have the chance o draw level on the head-to-head record when they host Bafana in the match hat will decide which country would qualify for the playoffs of the World Cup.

The Black Stars had the chance of finishing one point clear of South Africa in Group G but the goal conceded by Ghana in the closing period of the game ensured that the Black Stars could only secure one point in the match against Ethiopia.

Bafana Bafana took advantage of the Ghana slip up and beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in the last Group G fixture of Thursday and are now three points ahead of the Black Stars in the group.

This means South Africa's victory of 1-0 against Zimbabwe has created certain uncomfortable conditions that could affect Ghana's World Cup qualification hopes.

But with South Africa scoring only one goal against Zimbabwe, Ghana are still in with a big chance to reach the play-offs for the World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana remains second in the group and three points adrift of leaders South Africa but the Black Stars can make it to the play-offs with a victory - even 1-0 will do.

A 1-0 win in the favor of Ghana at Cape Coast means the Black Stars and Bafana Bafana have the same points and the exact goal differential of four. However, Ghana will advance due to having scored more goals.

If two teams from similar groups are tied with the same amount of points, the qualification for the World Cup is first decided by the total goal difference and the goals that are scored.

The Black Stars on Sunday, will try to stay clear of missing out at the two successive World Cups after missing out at the 2018 World Cup.

The match starts at 7pm.
