Adam Kwarasey hails Portland Timbers 'unsung hero' Jorge Villafaña after MLS title success

Ghana goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey hailed Portland Timbers defender Jorge Antonio Villafaña, who turned in a dream performance for the team as they secured their first MLS title on Sunday.

Villafaña,26, emerged as the best performer on the night with a commanding display at the back.

The former Chivas left-back completely nullified Crew SC right winger Ethan Finlay and took advantage of the space behind Columbus defender Harrison Afful, hitting several excellent crosses – including the one Fanendo Adi headed off the post late in the second half.

And goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey heaped massive praise on his teammates.

“He was as good as he’s been all year. He’s one of our best players. He’s consistent, always 100 percent,” he said

“There’s no winger in this league that can play with Jorge. Jorge is, I would say, one of the best fullbacks in the league, and he doesn’t get too much credit for it but we rate him high on our team.

“I think he’s played every single game this season and not one bad game. So I wish we could have Jorge here forever. He’s a good person as well. So yeah, he did well today.”
