Dushanbe: First-half goals from David Mawutor and Jahongir Aliev helped Tajikistan’s FC Istiklol overcome debutants Dordoi FC of the Kyrgyz Republic 2-0 as Group D of the 2017 AFC Cup got underway on Tuesday.

The hosts broke the deadlock on 17 minutes at Republican Central Stadium when Mawutor headed in Dmitrii Barkov’s cross from the right, before Aliev doubled their advantage five minutes later by side-footing home following captain Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev’s corner from the right.

The 2015 runners-up sought to kill the tie off in the second half and Fatkhuloev’s 20-yard effort was tipped wide by goalkeeper Valerii Kashuba on 72 minutes, before the captain lashed against the post from almost an identical position with two minutes remaining.
